Siri

When Siri is turned on, the iOS 18.1 beta features screen now glows around the edges. This works with iPhone, iPad, and CarPlay. The Siri app can be put anywhere on a Mac. It does the same thing as the Reduce Notifications Focus option: it lets important notifications go off while mutes notifications that aren’t important. Like it did before iOS 18.1, you can change the message settings for certain apps and people.In iOS 18.1, you can record phone calls. When you start a call, you can press the small record button in the top left area of the screen.

Before the recording starts, everyone on the call is told that it is being taped.The Notes app is where you can find recorded phone calls. You can tap in to see a transcript and get a report made from that transcript.There is a way to have Apple Intelligence describe a story for you while you read it in Reader Mode. 

Apple Intelligence Report

Apple promised that Apple Intelligence iOS 18.1 beta features would be open and honest, and the Privacy and Security section of the Settings app has an Apple Intelligence Report that lets you export your Apple Intelligence data. 

You will need to use Face ID to access and export your Apple Intelligence data. The iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 betas are only iOS 18.1 beta features available to registered developers with an eligible device. Devices that can’t run Apple Intelligence will not see the update.

Apple Intelligence Waitlist

After updating to iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, or macOS Sequoia 15.1 for developers, they will need to go to the Settings app and add their name to the AI waiting. A waitlist makes sure that downloads go quickly behind the scenes and that the system doesn’t get too busy.

Apple devices download the files they need to process while they are on the line, and so far, it hasn’t taken long for Apple Intelligence waiting signups to iOS 18.1 beta features be activated. The waitlist is tied to a specific account, so you only need to sign up for it on one computer to be able to use it on others.

So far, Apple Intelligence can only be used in English in the United States. Developers in the European Union or China cannot use it. The United States needs to be set as the device’s area and language. 

Usage limitations

The rollout with iOS 18.1 is also limited. Apple’s own news release in June stated that users with iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPad and Mac with M1 would later be able to try out Apple Intelligence features in beta if their device language is set to U.S.

English. But users and our tests show that you also need to set your device’s region to the U.S. Notably, this doesn’t change where the App Store is located.Now that you’ve set your area and language, you need to go to settings and tap on the new Apple Intelligence & Siri menu. Then you can use the Apple Intelligence features.

When your name is called off the waiting list to use Apple Intelligence features, you will be notified. Keep in mind that your device may need some time to download models for the AI suite, so not all of the features will be available right away. 

Features

With this roll out, Apple has added new animations to Siri. Also, if you double-tap the bottom bar, you can get Siri to use the text prompt.You can also use writing tools to polish the work or write it again in a similar style. You can also “Friendly,” “Professional,” and “Concise” the tone to suit your needs. You can also turn a bunch of writing into a list, an overview, a table, or key points on Apple.

You can summarize emails in the Mail app, and important emails will show up at the top of your mailbox. You can also see a short rundown of emails without actually reading them. You can also quickly answer texts with the smart replies tool.The iOS 18.1 update adds a Focus Mode called “Reduce Interruptions” that is driven by Apple Intelligence. This mode will use AI to only show you important messages.

There are still a lot of tools that the Apple Intelligence suite doesn’t have, like ChatGPT interaction and Image Playground. A story from Bloomberg says that Apple is still working to fix bugs in many of these new features, so users will have to wait to test them.

A lot of the new Apple Intelligence features are coming out at different times. Some were supposed to be available with iOS 18, some later this year, and some in an update in the spring of 2025.Apple has changed its plans a bit. The first set of Apple Intelligence features will be available in iOS 18.1, which is likely to come out in October. We have a list of items that will be added at certain times.

Apple Intelligence can only be used on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max in U.S. English in the United States area, as was already said. It can’t be put in place in China or the EU. 

iOS 18.1: How to install the beta

Right now, only coders can get the iOS 18.1 beta, but anyone can still get it. As of iOS 17, you don’t have to pay $99 a year to be a developer to get into the developer test. It’s okay to have a free developer account. You can get one in Xcode or the iOS Apple Developer app. With the Apple Developer app, here’s how to do it:

From the App Store, get the Apple Developer App.

Start up the app.

Click on My Account.

Use your normal Apple ID to log in.

They can get the iOS 18.1 beta instead by going to the Settings app, then General > Software Update, and then choosing iOS Developer Beta in the Beta Updates tab. When you go back to the main Software Update screen, you’ll see the words “Upgrade to iOS 18” near the bottom of the screen. In case you want to check out the iOS 18.1 test, just tap that.
