AirPods Max 2 Design: Fresh Changes and Features

Apple is known for releasing new versions of their products every couple of years, so it’s a bit of a surprise that the second generation of the incredibly popular AirPods Max 2 design hasn’t come out yet.

At the time they came out in 2020, the AirPods Max were Apple’s first attempt at making over-ear headphones. The AirPods and AirPods Pro had already taken the wireless earbud market by storm.

The AirPods Max are the most popular headphones on the market because they have a great design, a long battery life, comfortable fit, dramatic spatial audio, and great sound quality. Even at the very high price of £549.

To be fair, Apple fans are still patiently waiting for the second version of Apple AirPods Max, which isn’t really like them. There are, however, whispers going around that the wait might be over soon.

When will Apple AirPods Max 2 arrive?

Apple fans haven’t been given a specific date for when they can get their hands on the AirPods Max 2 design, but there are reports that a new Max version might come out in the late stages of 2024.

That’s what Apple expert Ming-Chi Kuo said earlier this year. He said that a new version of the AirPods Max is likely to come out along with a newer, cheaper pair of earbuds later in 2024.

The next version of AirPods will probably start shipping in large numbers in the second half of 2424 or the first half of 2524. These will include cheaper AirPods (Apple wants them to cost $99 each) and new AirPods Max, which will be put together by Luxshare ICT and Hon Teng.

Apple has made us wait before for AirPods Max to come out, though. Before going on sale in December, it was thought that they would come out a couple of months earlier, at the same time as the iPhone 12. It didn’t happen because of “complications,” so fans had to wait a few more months.

But it’s not often that there is a new upgrade after three years, which is fueling reports that there will be one soon, sometime in 2024.

That’s not all. According to MacRumors, analyst Jeff Pu says that a pair of cheap AirPods may come out at the same time as the AirPods Max 2 design later this year.

How will the Apple AirPods Max 2 look?

No matter what improvements are coming to the AirPods Max 2, you can be sure that the design, look, and feel will still be sleek, comfy, and stand out. Since the iMac G3 came out in 1998, that’s what we’ve come to expect from Apple.

We still don’t know much about the next Max, so we have to depend on rumors from people who know more about them to give us an idea of what we can expect when they finally come out.

Many of the rumors about this have been fueled by Mark Gurman’s words in an October 2023 newsletter. In these comments, he agrees with Kuo about when the movie might come out. Most of what he says is a hint at new colors and USB-C charges.

The color range

To begin, there is the color range. You can get the AirPods Max in pink, green, blue, silver, and space gray. Gurman thinks that “new colors for the AirPods Max 2 design” are on the way. That has led to rumors that the tech giant is thinking about adding Yellow, Orange, and Purple to the range. There are also rumors of a Product (Red) version. Some people think the new colors might match those of the iPhone 16, which is also set to come out later this year.

USB charging

In other news, the report that USB-C charging is coming is probably the least surprising of all of them. In December 2023, Apple revealed that the new iPhone 15 and charging cases for the AirPods Pro 2 would have USB-C ports. It’s likely that all future Apple products will also have these ports.

Touch controls

In the meantime, there are rumors that Apple is changing the Max’s control system so that it works more like a touchscreen instead of the Digital Crown. Current Max users who often hit the Digital Crown when making adjustments may be happy about this (pardon the pun).

The carry case

Finally, let’s talk about the carry case. Fans loved how the AirPods Max 2 design looked, but some people don’t like how their case protects them. Mostly for not being very watchful. Luckily, a patent found in the summer of 2022 seems to show that Apple is working on a stronger, longer-lasting case with a magnetic lock.

This points to a real case instead of what we have now, which is sort of like a wrap-around cover.

What are the Apple Airpods Max 2 specs?

The first batch of AirPods Max came with the best specs and features, such as adaptive EQ, active noise cancellation (ANC), spatial audio with dynamic head-tracking, and two H1 Apple chips.

There’s a lot to live up to and improve on in a second edition, but rumors say Apple is working on a number of big changes.

To begin, there are changes to ANC. A new patent for the AirPods Max 2 design talks about “audio howl” detection, which means that Apple is looking for better ways to reduce the unwanted feedback that ANC microphones often cause.

When the first version of AirPods Max 2 design came out, they were priced at a steep £549. However, that didn’t stop people from rushing to buy them. The waiting list got as long as 14 weeks at its longest point. They sold out almost right away.

We shouldn’t believe the rumors that Apple will release the second-generation Max at a cheaper price. This means that we should still expect to pay a high price for a high-end product.

Some fans have asked Apple to release a cheaper model along with the new Max so that fans can choose based on their budget. This is something Apple has done before with the iPhone, Macbook, iPad, and Apple Watch lines.

At this point, though, that’s just people sharing their hopes and not a true rumor.
